The Shanghai Suicide Intervention Alliance and Shanghai Hujinhua Health Education and Promotion Center plan to set up a center aimed at preventing suicides, according to Shanghai Morning Post.
Shan Huaihai, an official from the alliance, said on Sept 10 that the center is expected to open next year.
In China, about 287,000 people commit suicide every year.
Statistics also show that people with mental illnesses or physical diseases are more likely to commit suicide. Psychic shocks caused by the death of a close relative, heavy economic losses or broken marriages are also known to lead to suicides.
