A woman died of ethanol poisoning after accepting a 100 yuan ($15) bet from her colleagues to drink a full bottle of strong rice wine, Nanfang Daily reported Thursday.
A court in Guangdong province ruled the five colleagues who made the bet, along with their employer, should pay a total of 120,000 yuan in compensation to the dead woman's family. But the family has appealed the ruling by Nanhai court in Foshan, demanding a compensation package up to 640,000 yuan, the paper said.
The deceased, known as A Yun, was working at a real estate company in Foshan on March 1 when she finished an entire bottle of the hard liquor. She was found dead on an office desk a short time later.
The local hospital cited the cause of her death as ethanol poisoning, according to the newspaper.
