BEIJING - China on Thursday said it hoped the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would continue to enhance cooperation with Iran.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked to comment on the IAEA's latest mission to Iran.
Yukiya Amano, director of the IAEA, said Wednesday that no agreement was reached with Iran over its nuclear issue during the agency's recent visit to Tehran.
The team had hoped to inspect a site at Parchin, southeast of Tehran, where the agency believes Iran's suspicious nuclear activities are carried out. But the IAEA said Iran did not grant permission.
Hong said China has taken note of relevant media reports.
He called on the United Nations' nuclear watchdog to clarify relevant problems as soon as possible, in order to restore the international community's belief in the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.
Dialogues over Iran's nuclear issue are currently showing positive momentum, he said.
He called on related parties to make joint efforts and play constructive roles in promoting the early resumption of dialogue between Iran and the P5+1 partners - Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States and Germany.
