The quake, measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale, occurred at 14:28 on May 12, 2008 in Southwest China's Sichuan province. It is also known as the Wenchuan earthquake due to the location of the earthquake's epicenter, Wenchuan county in Sichuan province.

It left more than 80,000 people dead or missing.
