A policeman was in a poor condition in a hospital in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, after a drug trafficker had stabbed him.

Yang Fan, 24, was patrolling to catch drug smugglers and was watching dealers from a distance when one trafficker arrived at the scene from an unexpected direction. Yang rushed toward the man and grabbed his left hand, but the suspect turned around and stabbed him in the chest.

Although Yang was bleeding badly, he did not let the trafficker go until his fellow officers came to help.

The knife broke one of Yang's ribs and, more seriously, punctured his heart.

Police arrested the man.
