CPPCC chairman calls for maintaining stability

NANCHANG - China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin has called for accelerating the strategic restructuring of China's economy and promoting economic and social development in a "sound and fast manner."

Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour in east China's Jiangxi province, which lasted from June 12 to 16.

During his tour, Jia went to the cities of Jingdezhen, Yingtan, Xinyu, Yichun, Pingxiang and Nanchang, where he visited several villages and communities.

Jia also visited several corporate headquarters and scientific research labs. He talked with workers and scientists, asking them to make "great efforts" in developing energy-efficient technologies.

Jia showed concern regarding the incomes and general quality of life of both factory workers and rural residents.

The goal of developing economy is to meet the ever-increasing demands of the people, he said.

Jia said that efforts must also be made to address China's growing income gap.

Jia also called for efforts to resolve outstanding problems that have cast a negative impact on social harmony and stability, in a bid to create a better social environment.
