MACAO - Macao's Energy Sector Development Office (GDSE) Director Arnaldo Santos has announced that the government would urge public entities to create their own energy-saving goals, the Macao Post Daily reported on Monday.

The newspaper quoted Santos as saying that his office would provide professional training courses on the management of efficient energy use for servants from different government entities.

"Government officials will take the lead in saving energy. Some public sectors need a complex energy-saving goal due to their functions and huge amount of energy consumption," Santos said, adding that "different public sectors will set their own goals".

According to GDSE, all government officials are urged to dress in appropriate outfits which are cool enough for them to work in the office with the air-conditioner set at 25 degrees centigrade or above. Except for activities involving formal diplomacy, there will be no need for them to wear a jacket and tie.

"Several sectors have already launched pilot projects and the results are very good. This summer we shall encourage more (public) sectors to write energy using analysis reports and set up reviews, " Santos said, adding that they "encourage casinos, hotels, private companies and unions to follow our lead".
