"China believes the Tunisian government and its people have the ability, wisdom and ways to find an economic system and road of development suitable for the country's conditions," Xi said during a meeting with Mouldi Kefi, foreign minister of Tunisia's interim government.

Noting that significant changes took place in Tunisia's political situation earlier this year, Xi said China respects the will and choice of the Tunisian people.

"China will attach great importance to the Sino-Tunisian relationship as it always has, and will make joint efforts with Tunisia to boost mutually beneficial cooperation," Xi said.

Xi said the relationship between the two countries had developed in a stable fashion since diplomatic ties were forged in 1964.

Kefi spoke highly of the bilateral relationship, saying Tunisia was committed to promoting its friendship with China.

Kefi also expressed appreciation for China's political and economic support for Tunisia's interim government.

Kefi also met with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi on Friday, where they exchanged views on issues of common interests, such as the political situation in West Asia and North Africa.

Kefi will conclude his three-day visit on Saturday.
