Eight residents of Quanzhou, Fujian province, recently attempted to deposit 50,000 1-yuan notes in a local bank.

On the morning of May 9, the eight people, who were all employees of a bus company, carried three iron boxes containing the notes to the bank.

After depositing 6,300 yuan ($970) in 1-yuan notes at two service windows, the bank refused to count any more and called the police, as the counting had kept other customers waiting for so long.

The police defused the situation by suggesting the bank open up a dedicated counter for the group.

Before the bank clerks got off work, they had managed to count 13,000 yuan.
