An elderly man from Shaanxi province has been busy preparing his first concert - one that will feature mainly revolutionary-style songs that he wrote.

Local farmer Wang Laoqi, 70, has cultivated a passion for classical poetry and historical fiction since his childhood and started to write songs in 2003.

One of his works, entitled Voice the Aspirations of Farmers, was singled out for praise from the local government in 2004, while another piece, named Chinese Ancestor Worship Anthem, was used as the theme song for people paying homage to Huangdi, the Chinese ancestor, on the Double Ninth Festival, which fell on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month in the same year.

During the past eight years, Wang has created some 80 songs and produced an album. The concert will be held on April 20 in a hotel in the provincial capital, Xi'an.
