A prisoner in Chongqing continued to confess to previously unknown offenses just to stay away from his estranged family.

The man surnamed Wang, 18, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment last month by a county court after he stole some poultry animals and 3,000 yuan ($460) from 20 villagers between May 2008 and March 2009.

During his incarceration, the man confessed to other offences three times to extend his term of imprisonment to four and a half years.

Asked by the judges about the motivation for reporting himself, Wang said he was not a loved child in the family and that prison was better than his home.

According to neighbors, Wang's parents got divorced when he was four months old and he was raised by his grandmother. Due to insufficient care from his family, he dropped out of school after spending less than one year in primary school.
