BEIJING - A senior publicity official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has stressed the development of key cultural projects, calling for more support in building cultural industry bases and encouraging the creation of more cultural firms.

Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a recent tour of rural and urban communities, companies and cultural organizations in Shiyan and Wuhan cities of Central China's Hubei province, according to an official statement Xinhua received Sunday.

Liu said key cultural projects should be developed, and that these projects should serve as a major driving force for the development of China's cultural industry.

He added that efforts should be made to turn China's cultural industry into an economic pillar for the country.

Enhanced investment should be used to build cultural facilities and service networks, as well as form a public culture service system that is accessible by all Chinese citizens, he said.

Liu urged the continuation of efforts to deepen cultural industry reforms and make related systems more efficient, more open and more favorable in regard to the scientific development of China's cultural industry.
