BEIJING -- Latest air monitoring results show that China remains unaffected by radioactive leaks following explosions at the Fukushima nuclear plant of Japan, said the country's nuclear watchdog on Wednesday.
Stations in 41 cities across the country tested levels of radioactive material absorbed in the air. "Nothing unusual has been discovered," said the statement.
Radiation levels surrounding China's three nuclear power stations, Qinshan in Zhejiang Province, Dayawan in Guangdong Province and Tianwan in Jiangsu Province, also remain normal, according to the statement.
The statement came after radiation rose to dangerous levels near a nuclear plant in Japan's Fukushima, which was damaged by a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and ensuing tsunami on Friday.
The MEP began nationwide radiation monitoring after the leaks of radioactive substances were reported at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant, where blasts and fires broke out after some reactors lost cooling functions.
