Many world records set at Shanghai Expo 2010

KATHMANDU - Many world records have been set at the Shanghai Expo 2010 and Nepal's pavilion has attracted more than 7.5 million visitors, becoming one of the biggest pavilions, Nepal's National News Agency RSS reported Saturday, quoting Binayak Shah, Director of Nepal Pavilion at Shanghai Expo.

The Shanghai World Expo 2010 has seen the participation of 190 countries and 57 global organizations and set a few world records as of Saturday, one day before the final day.

"This is the biggest participation in 150 years of history after the first expo held in London in 1851," said Binayak Shah.

The number of people visiting Shanghai Expo that started six months ago has also set a new world record as more than 72.6 million visitors have already visited the expo venue till Friday. In Osaka Expo held in 1970, 64 million visitors had participated.

The venue is also the biggest in terms of expo area in the history with Shanghai Expo spreading in 5.28 square meters.

Nepal started participating in world expo in 1970, according to Shah. During the expo held in 2000 in Germany, 3.5 million people had visited the Nepal Pavilion, the report said.
