Czech Pavilion feted
The Czech Pavilion received the Youth Award on Oct 16 for its creative contribution to international cultural exchanges. The Shanghai International Youth Cultural Center chose to give the award to the country for its "Fruits of Civilization" pavilion theme. Yan Limin, the center's vice-president, presented the award to Pavel Antonn Stehlk, the commissioner-general of the Czech Pavilion, at the Expo press center.
Nordic fashion on the radar
The Royal Danish Consulate General in Shanghai and Export Promotion Denmark are hosting Nordic Fashion Week from Oct 21 to 22 in the Nordic Lighthouse. With both high-end brands presenting their latest haute couture and prt-a-porter pieces and popular brands showing their latest casual- and street-wear collections, Nordic Fashion Week aims to expand the knowledge of Nordic design brands and designers in China, while focusing on some of the distinctive features that characterize Scandinavian fashion.
Rome mayor visits Expo
Rome Mayor Giovanni Alemanno led a delegation of representatives from more than 20 Italian companies to the Expo Garden for an official visit on Oct 13 and 14 as part of a special 14-day calendar of activities at the Italy Pavilion. A series of conferences, forums and exhibitions were held to help demonstrate the potential and capability of Rome as a former Olympic host and major European business destination. It also demonstrated Rome's development model and ongoing sustainable projects and investment.
Broad seeking investors
The Broad Pavilion held a conference on Oct 19 to attract overseas investment. Yang Zhangwu, general manager of the company's sales department and Nie Zhe, CEO of Broad Group, both attended the conference. Nie gave a keynote speech during which he explained that one of the company's goals is to help reduce emissions as a manufacturer of air-conditioning units. The conference featured all kinds of organic beverages and food.
TCM looking into AIDS cures
The DEVNET Pavilion hosted a charity event on Oct 16 looking to promote a new form of treatment for patients with AIDS using traditional Chinese medicine. The event, which was co-hosted by the International AIDS Academy and the China Well-off Development Foundation, attracted more than 200 politicians, entrepreneurs and medical experts from more than 10 countries. Organizers donated AIDS medicine worth 3 million yuan ($450,000).
