Cutting carbon, cutting lines
Holders of "low-carbon" transport cards will be given direct access to the pavilions of Spain, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, the Czech Republic, the State Grid, and the We Are Family Pavilion in two phases from Oct 13 to 31. Model spaceships
The Space Home Pavilion awarded visitors for writing the most eloquent best wishes for the Chang'e-2 unmanned lunar space probe on Oct 14 to celebrate the pavilion's dedicated Expo day on Oct 15. Oct 15 is the anniversary of astronaut Yang Liwei's successful voyage into outer space in 2003. Thirty people received a miniature model of the Chang'e-2. Over 8,000 best wishes were collected from Oct 1 to 5 from around the country.
Turning tea into wine
Hanfang Tea Wine, the world's first wine to be 100 percent produced from tea leaves, received the UN's Millennium Development Goals Millennium Gold Medal on Sept 8.Hanfang Tea Wine, from Dalian in Liaoning province, was commemorated on Oct 3 by the DEVNET Pavilion with a special Dalian Hanfang Theme Day.
Parkour from Denmark
Denmark's Gerlev Performance Team amazed visitors at the Denmark Pavilion on Oct 6 and 7 with its combination of modern dance arts like house, hip-hop, jazz, parkour and free running. The performance team, made up of artists aged 19 to 27, was founded in 1938. Gerlev Sports Academy is the oldest sports academy in Denmark.
Li Siguang scholarship
The University of Birmingham announced its Li Siguang Scholarship on Oct 12 in conjunction with the China Scholarship Council. The scholarship will provide awards to Chinese students who apply for the university's PhD programs. It was named after the famous Chinese geographer Li Siguang, an alumnus of the UK-based university, as a way to commemorate Li's contribution to international cooperation and talent training in the field of modern geology. The university will set up a representative office in Beijing to work with its Shanghai office as a way of accelerating its engagement with China.
