Ballet de Santiago

Ballet de Santiago from Chile will perform a gala show, presenting highlights from Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Don Quixote, La Bayadere and modern Ballet inspired by Tango and other South American programs. As one of the most outstanding ballets in South America, dance artist Octavio Cintolesi founded the company in 1959. Ballet de Santiago's repertoire includes classic, neoclassical and modern performance styles.

Manderlay

Following the great success of Dogville last year, the Bavarian Theatre Academy from Germany brings the same production team and actors of Dogville to this year's Shanghai International Arts Festival with the drama Manderlay, the sequel of Dogville. It tells the story of Grace's experience in a manor named Manderlay after she leaves Dogville. At the manor, the crude slavery system still exists and Grace doesn't surrender to the threat of the old powerful forces. She leads the black slaves to fight against the slavery system in pursuit of freedom and democracy.

The Jester

The Li-yuan Peking Opera Theatre presents a Peking opera adaptation of the Verdi opera classic Rigoletto. The theatre moves the setting to ancient China and incorporates traditional Peking opera singing styles and body movements.

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will give three concerts in Shanghai, a classical concert on Oct 15, the John Lennon Song Book concert on Oct 17 and "Back to the Future" school concert on Oct 18. Vasily Petrenko, the current Principal Conductor of the Orchestra, will lead the first show. Works of Elgar and Shostakovich will be performed in the classical concert, while the John Lennon Song Book performance will involve famous jazz singers and film stars and include 20 of John Lennon's songs.
