The Ring of the Nibelung

Germany's Cologne Opera House will present The Ring of the Nibelung, Wagner's most ambitious opera, which is a cycle of four epic operas: The Rhinegold, The Valkyrie, Siegfried and The Twilight of the Gods. Two cycles will be performed, each taking four nights.

The Merry Widow

The Shanghai Opera House will open its 2010-11 season with the light opera, The Merry Widow. Pioneering director Li Wei has made bold revision to the original work, adding satirical dialogues about contemporary Chinese issues.

An exhibition featuring art and architecture in relation to sustainable urban development in China is being held at the Himalayas Art Museum. Chinese and German artists have worked together on the subject of sustainable urban development in China.

Flower in a Mirror

Water-ink artist Chen Jiu and pottery sculptor Zhang Jingjing will hold a joint exhibition. The two artists make a visual conversation about the transience and elusiveness of beauty, like flowers in the mirror or a moon in water.

Learning from the literati

This new exhibition aims at reviving traditional Chinese literati artists. As early as 2,000 years ago, these men defined themselves from the court painters by bringing a sense of personal expression into their depictions of the landscape. They were renaissance men well versed in law, poetry, calligraphy and philosophies such as Daoism and Confucianism.
