Celebrated as one of the most famous paintings in China, The Drunken Beauty has recently developed a new kind of derivative artwork after its popular embroidery has become much sought after in the art market.
The Drunken Beauty's latest derivative is enamel porcelain, crafted from Mao Porcelain, named after Mao Zedong for its exclusive use in making chinaware for the former leader. It is painted by a master artist, Gu Chengqing, who was appointed as the painter of Mao's birthday chinaware in 1974.
The talented Gu was also the painter for a special United Nation's chinaware edition and the designer of the porcelain plate presented to former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Thanks to Gu's magical brush and Mao Porcelain's fine luster, the hand-painted porcelain plate has vividly characterized the unique charm of The Drunken Beauty. It is a new piece of precious work for art collectors to possess and enjoy.
