Humility strikes

Volunteering for Expo 2010 Shanghai is a great opportunity for many kids who are "rich second generation" to get rid of bad habits and cultivate good qualities. Xu Ziqi, who took only a private car or taxi to commute between school and home, did not know how to use a public transportation card until he served at a volunteer booth in Jing'an district, where he learns to follow a frugal lifestyle. Once self-centered, he started helping others and even offered his family's luxury car to his volunteer group when a vehicle was needed.

Slow down, enjoy

The benefits of slowing down when you visit the Expo Garden are obvious; one can enjoy the details of exhibitions rather than simply being eager to see as many pavilions as possible. It is, however, not easy to slow down as so many visitors are coming just to take pictures. No wonder people complain the Expo is not pleasing to the eye. If we don't look properly, how can it ever be pleasing?

Advice heeded

The Expo Garden is changing everyday. Whenever visitors make suggestions, give advice or offer criticism, organizers try their very best to make things better. Outside the Expo Garden, however, the passion for forging ahead in doing what is right is rarely seen. It is highly expected that every sector in our society will learn from the willingness of Expo organizers to quickly take advice and make a difference.

Confusing times

Seeing the exhibitions at Expo 2010 Shanghai, visitors may get confused. There are so many highbrow arts and lowbrow applications. What is the best for human development? In fact, only time will tell. We need to bring an open mind that tolerates and celebrates diversity. This is probably all we can do for the present.
