London Symphony
Conductor Ristjan Jarvi will lead the London Symphony Orchestra for two concerts in Shanghai. Chinese cellist Wang Jian and French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet will be the featured soloists. The program for the Sep 9 concert is: Four Sea Interludes by Britten, Cello Concerto No 1 by Shostakovich and Concerto for Orchestra by Bartok. Sep 10: Symphonic Dances from West Side Story by Bernstein, Piano Concerto No 1 by Liszt and Symphonic Dances by Rachmaninov.

Polish Ballet
The National Ballet of Poland will present an original ballet in two acts, Chopin, the Romantic Artist. The script is the work of Antoni Libera, while the music will include pieces by Fryderyk Chopin and composers influenced by his work, Hector Berlioz, Sergei Lyapunov, Franz Liszt and Robert Schumann. Patrice Bart will choreograph the production.

Ode to Peace
It is the first large-scale dance drama on religious culture ever created in China. When it premiered at the world's first Buddhist forum in Hangzhou in 2006, the drama won high praise from artists and Buddhists at home and abroad. Telling the tales of the birth of Buddhism and its introduction into China, the group makes full use of stage performance forms, such as Chinese traditional dance, instruments and martial arts, to depict the process of Buddhist culture integrating with Chinese traditional Taoism.

Wu Guanzhong
A memorial art exhibition of modern master Wu Guanzhong, who died on June 25 at the age of 91. Wu donated a large number of his paintings to the Shanghai Art Museum in the last few years of his life. An academic forum on Wu and his art will be held during the show.
