The Shanghai municipal government has launched a campaign themed "Low Energy, Low Carbon" calling for government and public employees to participate in green-friendly activities to commemorate the Expo, the first green World Expo.

In a notice released by the municipality, it has asked all employees from government and public divisions to take part in these initiatives and contribute throughout the six-month event.

Government departments will try different solutions to save energy, including using of energy-saving products, energy-saving technology and reducing consumption of lighting, air-conditioners and other energy-consuming systems.

The Expo has provided China with a great platform to showcase Chinese history, culture and an optimistic outlook for the future. It is also an ideal opportunity for Shanghai to build up a favorable international image and to promote low-carbon development. The theme of the Expo not only indicates the harmony and cooperation among people from around the world but also suggests the development between people and nature.

The low-energy and low-carbon themed activities include essay contests, an energy-saving day and competitions between employees.
