Li Yugang

Li Yugang is a female impersonator who borrows from traditional Peking Opera and Japanese kabuki. While roles such as onnagata and oyama in kabuki use men to impersonate women, Li has established a unique performing style, winning recognition at home and abroad. His concert in Shanghai, entitled Flower in Mirror, Moon in Water will feature elaborate costumes and fantastic stage design.

Last Winter

The first successful work by acclaimed Shanghai playwright Yu Rongjun, Last Winter tells the story of a middle-aged widower renting his extra room to a young couple, hoping to have some company and again find the feeling of home. Each of the three is faced with his/her problems and difficulties, but eventually they reconcile and find company in each other.

Guanyin Sisters

An original acrobatic musical, Guanyin Sisters, will hold four performances in Shanghai. Telling the story of three legendary princesses who devote themselves to making life better for others, the play combines music and dance with traditional Chinese acrobatic performance. Created by Suining Acrobatic Troupe, the play incorporates many international-award winning acrobatic feats.

Ten Thousand Waves

Conceived and created over three years, Ten Thousand Waves, a nine-screen video installation work, sees British artist Isaac Julien collaborating with some of China's leading artistic voices. These include the legendary siren of Chinese cinema, Maggie Cheung; rising star of Chinese film, Zhao Tao; poet Wang Ping; master calligrapher Gong Fagen; artist Yang Fudong; acclaimed cinematographer Zhao Xiaoshi; and a 100-strong Chinese cast and crew. The film's original musical score is by Jah Wobble, the Chinese Dub Orchestra and contemporary classical composer Maria de Alvear.

Ateliers Ouverts

To strengthen cultural communication between Beijing and Shanghai, Ateliers Ouverts 2010 has put together an outstanding exhibition from 458 studios in the two cities as an exchange exhibition, each featuring the style of its creative locale.

Creative Expo

The latest designs from Shanghai and Taipei will be showcased at the Twin City Creative Expo. Industrial designers and electronic artists from Taiwan will bring their creations, from large interactive LED screens for commercial use to small gadgets such as candles with porcelain texture and shell sculptures. A special section will be given to environmental friendly designs, where visitors can find green towels and kitchenware, as well as organic food.
