The number of stronger hurricanes and tropical storms will also increase, all as a result of a warmer climate evident in the research he and his international colleagues have conducted over the past two decades, said Dr. Ghassem Asrar, director of the World Climate Research Program.

The world must take advantage of what we know now and take effective measures to build up infrastructure and minimize potential damage and risk to people's lives and property in the event of such extreme conditions, he said.
