The event aims to promote a low-carbon economy and showcase Hebei's urban construction achievements.

Featured exhibits include urban developments, environmentally friendly construction technologies, urban facilities and services and intelligent housing.

A series of forums and symposiums will also take place. Officials and scholars will meet to discuss the roles of China's cities in achieving UN Millennium Development Goals.

Aims include reducing extreme poverty and child mortality rates, fighting AIDS and building a global partnership for development.

The forum is co-sponsored by the UN and the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

Hebei held a similar urban construction conference in 2008. Ministry and provincial government officials organized a meeting in Langfang to attract capital and advance urban expansion.

During that time, 73 projects were signed, representing 524 billion yuan in investment.

A second urban construction expo took place in Shijiazhuang last year. It attracted more than 80 foreign scholars and ambassadors as well as some 300 Chinese experts. Around 165 projects were signed, with combined investment surpassing 888 billion yuan.
