Statements from the Japanese side during the current Asian regional summit violate China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, said Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue on Friday.

The Japanese move ruined the atmosphere for leaders from the two sides to conduct talks in the Vietnamese capital, Hu said.

The official also said the Japanese side made untrue statements about the content of a meeting between Chinese and Japanese foreign ministers held earlier in the day and was turning the issue concerning Diaoyu Islands into a "hot topic".

The meeting came after the Japanese authorities detained a Chinese trawler captain in early September off the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea, prompting a diplomatic standoff.

Chinese foreign minister Yang Jiechi reaffirmed China's solemn stance on the issue concerning the Diaoyu Islands during the meeting.
