YOKOHAMA -- The 18th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) started its second session Sunday morning, at which Chinese President Hu Jintao will explain China's stand on the topics to be discussed.
According to the meeting's agenda, the APEC leaders will discuss at the second session the issues of regional economic integration, assessment of achievement of Bogor goals by APEC economies, trade and the future of APEC.
At the first session Saturday afternoon, the APEC leaders discussed a growth strategy for the Asia-Pacific region, and human security, which includes food security, infectious diseases, counter-terrorism, anti-corruption and disaster preparedness.
During the discussion, President Hu said that in order to strive for sound and fast economic development of the Asia-Pacific region at a higher level, APEC members should promote balanced growth to create conditions for long-term economic development.
The APEC members should advocate inclusive growth to boost the internal dynamism of economic development, bolster sustainable growth to strive for long-term economic development, encourage innovative growth to give impetus to economic development, ensure secure growth to protect the results of economic development, said the Chinese president.
APEC is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
