Central and southwest China to embrace heavy rains

BEIJING - China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) issued Saturday morning an alert, warning torrential rains will hit the nation's central and southwest regions from 8 am  Saturday to 8 am Sunday.

Heavy rains are forecasted to pound some regions in the provinces of Sichuan, Gansu, Shananxi, Hubei, Henan, Shanxi, Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan, with rainstorms in some areas in the Sichuan Basin.

The central and western parts of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, the eastern regions in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces will also see heavy rains, according to the NMC.

Torrential rains have pounded southern regions of China in recent weeks, causing heavy losses.

Latest figures from the Ministry of Civil Affairs showed, rain-triggered floods left 273 people dead and 218 missing since rainstorms struck south China on July 1.
