NANNING - Eight people were confirmed dead and 13 were injured in a traffic accident in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Wednesday morning, local police said.

In an interview with Xinhua at 11 a.m., a spokesman with the regional public security department corrected the number of injuries from 24 to 13, saying only 21 people were in the Jinbei van that veered off a village road in Pingguo County of Baise City at 7 a.m.

He said the eight dead were all adults, but did not identify the victims.

The driver was among the 13 injured who were being treated at hospitals in Baise, he said.

Police are investigating the accident.
