225 killed in 15 major accidents in 1st quarter

National work safety authorities say 15 major accidents killed 225 people from January 1 up to March 14 of this year.

At a national safety supervision meeting held in Chengdu on Thursday, officials described 15 major accidents. Seven major traffic accidents killed 103 people, an increase of 40 per cent and 75 per cent respectively year on year. Three maritime accidents left 35 people dead or missing, up 100 per cent compared with last year. Accidents in the construction industry rose 150 per cent over last year.
