BUCHAREST - Romania will target the Chinese mainland market and China's Hong Kong market this year, Romania-China Commerce Chamber President Gabriel Ghelmegeanu told a conference here Friday.

"We want to enter the Chinese market with new products and, in November, we will attend the biggest fair in Hong Kong, with a delegation of Romanian wine producers," Ghelmegeanu told the conference, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Association.

Ministry of Economy adviser Anca Turcea said trade exchanges amounted to more than $93 million in November 2009 and Romania's exports to Hong Kong exceeded $78.8 million, up by 64 percent compared to 2008.

Romania's exports to Hong Kong are mainly equipment, machines, food, vehicles, live animals and animal products, and Romania mainly imports building materials, technology, optical installations and textiles from Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong representatives said Hong Kong companies were also seeking investment opportunities in Romania, especially in infrastructure, banking and on public-private partnership projects.

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) on Friday organized a business seminar here with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) to present Hong Kong's business environment.
