HEFEI: Labor shortages in China's coastal regions have spread inland to east China's Anhui province, a spokesperson at an Anhui job fair said Thursday.

In contrast to last year's job fair, when job seekers far outweighed vacancies as the financial crisis hit, Anhui employers can't find enough workers this year.

A total of 80 Chinese and foreign enterprises offered 2,500 jobs at the recently-held job fair, the first since the Chinese lunar year. Jobs varied from marketing to construction work.

"We planned to recruit 300 people this time, and we prepared cars for the job hunters to visit our company and factories. But applicants are far less than we expected," an employee of household appliance manufacturer Midea said at the fair.

The government has recognized the problem and is dealing with it by restructuring the job market, a provincial human resources and social security official said.
