A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale has struck Southwest China's Yunnan province, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center, china.com.cn reported today.
The quake happened at the border area of Lufeng county and Yuanmou county of Yunnan and it was also felt in Kunming, the provincial capital, the provincial seismological bureau said.
It struck at 12:56 am (Beijing time) today. The epicenter was 25.4 degrees north latitude and 105.5 degrees east longitude with a depth of 16 km.
No casualties have yet been reported.
