BEIJING: Austrian President Heinz Fischer arrived here Tuesday noon for a four-day state visit to China.

During  his stay in Beijing, Chinese President Hu Jintao will hold talks with him. Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's  Congress Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao will meet with him.

Apart from Beijing, he will also visit China's economic hub of Shanghai.

His delegation to China includes a number of Austrian ministers, state secretaries and some other senior officials. Representives from economic, cultural, science and technology circles also form part of his retinue.

In an interview with the Chinese media in the Austrian capital Vienna, Fischer said he hoped to further strengthen mutual understanding and trust and further promote economic cooperation between the two countries.

Fischer's first visit to China was in 1974 as science and technology minister and is now making his first China trip as Austrian president since taking office in 2004.
