5 dead, 1 missing in NW China's chemical plant blast

LANZHOU: Five people were confirmed dead and one still missing after a chemical plant blast in northwest China's Gansu Province, local government officials said Friday.

The blast happened on Thursday afternoon at the plant run by the Lanzhou Chemical Company of the China National Petroleum Corporation near the provincial capital of Lanzhou.

The plant was 30 km away from downtown. Residential buildings near the plant were not affected, the officials said.
