Police in Fuqing, Fujian province, detained a man who stole 200 yuan ($29) from a private residence and are searching for the victim's wife, who, after catching the thief red-handed, tried to extort money from him last Monday.
After Li's wife, Ju, spot Liu stealing money from her husband's wallet, she asked the suspect to pay her 7,000 yuan if he didn't want the police involved.
When Liu claimed helplessness, she phoned the cops.
Ju has vanished ever since she got a whiff that the police had also charged her for extortion.
