XI'AN: Heavy fog and light snow have blanketed northwest China's Shaanxi Province, disrupting traffic and causing flight delays.
A light snow amid a heavy fog with a visibility of less than 500 meters hit many parts of the province early Monday.
More than 60 flights had been delayed and more than 20 were canceled as of Monday afternoon at the Xi'an Xianyang International Airport. Thousands of passengers were stranded, an airport spokesman said.
The highways in the province, however, were still in operation.
Heavy snow was expected to hit the southeastern part of the province within 24 hours, the provincial meteorological station said early Monday.
Heavy snow has also been falling in neighboring Gansu Province. The snow since Sunday night would last until Wednesday, according to the local observatory.
