26 on gang crime trial in SW China

CHONGQING: Twenty-six people went on trial on charges of gang-related crimes Tuesday in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

The hearing is expected to last for five days at the No. 2 Intermediate People's Court of Chongqing.

The gang, led by Chen Zhiyi and Deng Yuping, faced 22 charges, including organizing and leading criminal gangs, murder, robbery, loan sharking, running illegal casinos, illegal weapon trading, and illegal detention.

The gang allegedly killed three people and injured four others and profited 30 million yuan (4.4 million US dollars) from running illegal casinos. Its leader Chen Zhiyi allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl.

Another three gangs of 79 people respectively led by Gong Gangmo, Wang Xingqiang and Wang Tianlun will be tried separately at the No.1, No.2 and No. 5 intermediate court of Chongqing in December.
