Updated: 2009-11-26 16:31 BEIJING: Five high school students from the Chinese mainland will leave Beijing Friday to participate in the Children's Climate Forum in Copenhagen. Li Chuheng, Wang Yao, Wang Zinan, Chen Xizhao, and Liao Zhe from Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan and Guangdong were selected as delegates to the forum because of their enthusiasm and continuous efforts in climate change problems during their spare time. Altogether 160 children from 44 countries and regions will take part in the forum held by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) from November 28 to December 4.
Li Chuheng said she would inform other delegates of Beijing's efforts in developing public transport and hoped to learn ways to enhance public awareness of climate change. "I hope I can influence more people as a 'young ambassador'," she said. Yang Zhenbo, head of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program of UNICEF Office for China, said he hoped the five would actively discuss the issues with other delegates and make proposals to the COP 15. "I also hope they help more people to enhance awareness of climate change after returning," Yang said. |
