China's top political advisor starts visit to Brazil

BRASILIA: China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin arrived here Wednesday to start his official good-will visit to Brazil.

Upon his arrival, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), delivered a written speech at the airport.

Jia hailed the economic and political development of Brazil, saying it is playing an increasingly important role in international and regional affairs.

Speaking highly of the China-Brazil relationship, which features frequent high-level visits, Jia said such bilateral ties have enhanced trade and economic exchanges, high-tech cooperation, as well as close contact and coordination in international affairs.

The strategic partnership between the two countries will achieve an all-round development through joint efforts, he said.

Jia, at the invitation of Jose Sarney, president of the Federal Senate of the Brazilian National Congress, is expected to meet the country's leadership on bilateral relations and issues of common concern.

He expressed his belief that his visit will contribute to deepening friendship, consolidating political mutual trust, expanding cooperation and promoting development for both sides.

Brazil is the last lag of Jia's four-nation visit, which has already taken him to the Philippines, Peru and Ecuador.
