Yang Yi, spokesman of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a regular press conference that it would be "very natural" for Hu, as general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), to meet with Lien.

Yang made the remarks when asked if Hu and Lien would meet at the informal leaders meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) scheduled for November 14 and 15.

"The two sides are discussing and arranging for the relevant details," Yang said.

However, he did not respond directly when asked if "the launch of cross-Strait political dialogue" would be touched upon during the meeting.

Instead, he said, "They will have many topics to talk about, of course."

Hu is to leave for Singapore later Wednesday for a state visit and to attend the APEC meeting. He arrived in Malaysia Tuesday and met with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak Wednesday.
