Tainted official writes book on officialdom in jail
(China Daily)
Updated: 2009-11-04 09:17 A former official doing his time for corruption has completed a novel comprised of 350,000 Chinese characters behind bars in Nanjing, Jiangsu province. Zhou Jiugeng, the former chief of a district house property bureau, came into limelight when a picture of him, wearing a luxurious wristwatch and smoking expensive cigarettes, was posted online last December.
On Oct 10 this year, he was sentenced to 11 years behind bars. Zhou's novel, which he started writing ever since his detention in March, is about "officialdom in China". Zhou said he was still contemplating whether he wanted to publish the novel or not, even though a publishing house had already expressed interest in the manuscript. (Modern Express) |
