Chinese top commander to visit US

A vice chairman of the Chinese Army's top command is scheduled to visit the United States from October 24 to October 31, the Pentagon said Thursday.

General Xu Caihou will visit Washington DC and tour posts and bases throughout the United States during his trip, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said. The visit was agreed to at the 10th Sino-US Defense Consultative Talks in June in Beijing.

The General's trip is a sign of improving relations between not only the two armies, but also between the two countries, Pan Zheng, a senior expert on US strategy at the National Defense University, told China Daily.
