China Journalist Association Superintendent (CJAS) became the first newspaper under the umbrella of the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) to close operations on August 28 after it failed to attract investors, the GAPP said on September 3,according to China Economic Weekly.

The reform for the newspaper industry has been underway since 2003 with the structure of central newspapers being overhauled. The CJAS case is a signal that system reform of State-owned newspapers and periodicals will accelerate in China, said the weekly.
