It has been two years since Vanke's last land purchase and commentators suggested the firm was willing to pay a higher price as it was in need of land.

The land purchased by Vanke is located in the Fangshan district with a designed gross floor area of 341,000 sq m.

An unnamed senior executive with a property developer told the China Business News that the highest housing price in this area is around 8000 yuan per sq m, so Vanke’s price for the land is really high in comparison.

The vice president of Vanke, Mao Daqing who bid on behalf of Vanke, refused to comment on the bidding.
