Road accident kills five in SE China

FUZHOU: Five people were killed when a bus hit a guardrail on an expressway and turned over Sunday afternoon in east China's Fujian Province.

The 37-seat bus was carrying 33 people from Xiamen in Fujian Province to Cangnan in eastern Zhejiang Province when the accident occurred at around 4:30 pm at the Fu'an section of the Shenyang-Haikou expressway.

A total of 46 fire fighters came to rescue the victims of the accident, some of whom were trapped under the turned-over bus.

The rescuers said the innjured were immediately sent to the local hospital.

The police is investigating the cause of the accident.

Another accident happened Tuesday morning on the same section of the highway that links Shenyang City in northeast China and Haikou City in south China. It killed nine people and injured 20 others as a bus hit a car and tumbled down into a ditch.

The driver was having a cell phone call when the accident happened on Tuesday, said the local police.
