ASEAN, China friendly organizations conference to be placed

KUALA LUMPUR: The 4th Conference on the ASEAN-China People-to-People Friendship Organizations agreed here on Friday that the procedures and arrangement for the annual conference will be institutionalized.

This was because the mechanism between the two sides had contributed to enhancing bilateral activities, the conference said in the Declaration on ASEAN-China People-to-People Friendship Organizations when it closed here.

The two sides agreed to fix the holding of the annual conference in the fourth week of July while the host country was responsible for coming up with a theme for the particular conference.

Singapore was chosen as the host for the 5th Conference.

The conference also encouraged the friendship associations each to send a minimum of ten participants to join the annual event.

The two sides also agreed to hold an ASEAN-China business exhibition, education forum, friendly sports events and performances for the youth cultural troupe, while Brunei, Singapore and China will jointly coordinate the design of ASEAN- China website scheduled to be launched in 2010.
