Malaysian PM concludes 4-day China visit

BEIJING -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak left here on Friday afternoon, concluding his first official visit to China after taking office in April.

Najib paid his four-day official visit at the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. During Najib's stay in Beijing, he met with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen and other state leaders.

During this visit, the two countries signed an action plan on China-Malaysia strategic cooperation, which outlined the bilateral cooperation in politics, economy, culture, education, science, energy and other sectors in the coming years.

The Prime Minister attended events to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of China-Malaysia diplomatic ties, and joined a business forum of entrepreneurs.

In addition to Beijing, Najib also visited Qinhuangdao of the northern Hebei Province, where he witnessed an opening of a China-Malaysia joint venture company of steel tube.

Malaysia was the first country among the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to forge diplomatic relations with China 35 years ago under then Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak, Najib's late father.

Najib received a special gift from Premier Wen: a photo of his late father and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai when signing the communique in 1974.

Malaysia has become China's largest trade partner among the ASEAN members, with bilateral trade volume reaching US$53.47 billion in 2008, two years ahead of a target of US$50 billion set by Chinese and Malaysian leaders.
