Samples taken from the man showed "slightly positive" signs of infection in preliminary test and the Hong Kong University is doing further examination. The man is now in a local infectious disease hospital, Hong Kong's public broadcaster RTHK said.

Hong Kong reported the first confirmed case of influenza A(H1N1) infection on May 1. Following the confirmation, local government ordered the quarantine of the Wanchai Metropark Hotel where the confirmed patient had briefly stayed.

The man involved in the case was discharged from hospital on May 8, and quarantine on the hotel ended later the same day.
