BEIJING -- China's Ministry of Health Wednesday confirmed a man in the eastern Shandong Province who recently returned from Canada tested positive for the A/H1N1 influenza.

The case, the second of its kind on the Chinese mainland so far, involved a 19-year-old student surnamed Lv who arrived in Beijing on Flight AC029 on May 8. He arrived at Jinan, capital of Shandong Province on May 11 by train D41.

Lv, who has been quarantined, is "recovering with a normal body temperature," China's Health Ministry said on its website Wednesday.

He had a fever on May 10 and developed a sore throat and headache on May 11. He took his temperature himself, which showed 39 degree Celsius, according to the ministry.

Lv left Beijing by Train D41 Monday evening for Jinan, the provincial capital of Shandong, and reported by phone to the Jinan Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) while on the train. He was then sent to the Jinan Infectious Disease Hospital for isolation and treatment.

The Jinan CDC and Shandong CDC conducted tests on the virus specimen of the patient Tuesday, which showed that he was "suspected positive" for A (H1N1).

He is the second such case on the Chinese mainland, following a 30-year-old man surnamed Bao in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

Bao was also recovering with a normal body temperature and "showing good spirits," the Health Ministry said Wednesday.

The country's health authorities had begun a manhunt for those in close contact with Lv during his travels.

Passengers from the 32nd to 38th row on Flight AC029 on May 8, and those who traveled on the 7th carriage of Monday's Train D41 must report to health authorities as soon as possible, it required.

HK Reports New Suspected Case

A man arriving in Hong Kong on Monday from the United States may have been infected with the A/ H1N1 flu virus, local media reported Wednesday.

Samples taken from the man showed "slightly positive" signs of infection in preliminary test and the Hong Kong University is doing further examination. The man is now in a local infectious disease hospital, Hong Kong's public broadcaster RTHK said.

Hong Kong reported the first confirmed case of influenza A (H1N1) infection on May 1. Following the confirmation, local government ordered the quarantine of the Wanchai Metropark Hotel where the confirmed patient had briefly stayed.

The man involved in the first case was discharged from hospital on May 8, and quarantine on the hotel ended later the same day.
